Ven Pongal

Ingredients

  1. Rice
  2. Moong Dal
  3. whole black pepper
  4. Fresh ginger and grate them to small pieces(you can use ginger/garlic paste but it won’t be the same)
  5. Cumin seeds
  6. Curry leaves
  7. Ghee is preferred, but butter is OK

Directions

  1. First wash the moong dhal.
  2. Take a frying pan add some butter to the pan and add the washed moong dhal to the pan.
  3. Fry the moong dhal till it turns brown and stop it if the butter starts to burn.
  4. Wash the rice and then add the roasted moong dhal to the washed rice.
  5. Add salt to taste and start cooking. add as much water so that it doesn’t get dry and burn at the bottom.
  6. Wait till the rice, moong dhal mixture is cooked and lower the flame
  7. Once the rice is cooked now you can start preparing the seasoning
  8. add butter to the frying pan and add cashew nuts and fry till it turns brown
  9. Add cumin seeds, ginger, black pepper and curry leaves to the pan, turn off the heat once butter starts to burn.
  10. Take the seasoning mixture and add it to the rice and stir it
