Ven Pongal
Ingredients
- Rice
- Moong Dal
- whole black pepper
- Fresh ginger and grate them to small pieces(you can use ginger/garlic paste but it won’t be the same)
- Cumin seeds
- Curry leaves
- Ghee is preferred, but butter is OK
Directions
- First wash the moong dhal.
- Take a frying pan add some butter to the pan and add the washed moong dhal to the pan.
- Fry the moong dhal till it turns brown and stop it if the butter starts to burn.
- Wash the rice and then add the roasted moong dhal to the washed rice.
- Add salt to taste and start cooking. add as much water so that it doesn’t get dry and burn at the bottom.
- Wait till the rice, moong dhal mixture is cooked and lower the flame
- Once the rice is cooked now you can start preparing the seasoning
- add butter to the frying pan and add cashew nuts and fry till it turns brown
- Add cumin seeds, ginger, black pepper and curry leaves to the pan, turn off the heat once butter starts to burn.
- Take the seasoning mixture and add it to the rice and stir it
